Synagogue and Jewish Museum:

The huge Byzantine-Moorish style Synagogue at the beginning of the Dohány utca is not only one of the most imposing historic buildings in Budapest, it is the largest synagogue in all Europe. It is about 3 minutes by walk.

Uránia National Filmtheatre:

3 minutes walk from the hostel you can find the

most beautiful cinema in Budapest, it is look like a theatre.

Múzeum körútCentre for antiquarian booksellers:

 Over a dozen antiquarian booksellers stocking everything from second hand modern books to valuable rarities, including incunabula, manuscripts and postcards.

Address: Budapest, 5th district Múzeum körút, from Astoria to Kálvin tér. Opening hours vary, but are usually from around 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.

Hungarian National Museum:

The Hungarian National Museum is a museum of archeology and history. Its exclusive collections contain historical artefacts dating back as far as the Palaeolithic Age in the Carpathian basin. The most exclusive objects are put on display in the exhibitions. It is about 5 minutes walk.

Inner City Calvinist Church:

Built in neo-Gothic style in the nineteenth century, the four-columned great porch, the organ loft and the pulpit are all the work of the great Hungarian architect Jozsef Hild. Master stained glass craftsman Miksa Roth designed the acclaimed windows. The treasury contains a fine collection of liturgical objects dating from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. (It is abut 9 minutes from the hostel.) Address: Budapest, 8th district, Kálvin tér 12-14.

The Central Market Hall - Nagyvásárcsarnok:

 The building, raised in 1895-97. according to plans by Samu Petz, remained the biggest Market-Hall in the city throughout the years. Today it attracts shoppers for its spaciousness and architectural decor. The Market Hall operates even today.

Váci utca:

This is the famous pedestrian street.  Váci Street is the pulsating, busy centre of Pest. This is The City where banks and expensive shops stand next to one another, squeezed into the narrow plots. There are few particularly old buildings, but there are many worthy of attention.  (It is about 8 minutes from the hostel.)

St Stephen's Basilica (Szent István-bazilika):

The largest church in Budapest and the second most important in Hungary is St Stephen's Basilica. It was built by Jozsef Hild, Miklós Ybl and József Kauser in a neo-Renaissance-Classicist style. The mummified right hand of Hungary's first Christian ruler King Stephen the Saint's (István I) is kept here. Andrássy út:

Although divided into three major sections, the avenue, which has been part of the World Heritage since 2002, shows an outstanding architectural homogeneity which can be explained by the fact it was completely built up in little over ten years. (It is about 5 minutes walk from the hostel.)

  Hungarian National State Opera House

The Hungarian National State Opera House was finished in 1884. A masterpiece of Hungarian architect Miklós Ybl, it is one of the most magnificent of its kind in Europe. It has 1200 seats, and has been completely renovated by 1984. The roof of the building features the sculptures of distinguished composers of the Opera — you can even read the incriptions under, through binocalars.  (It is about 15 minutes from the hostel.) House of Terror:

This house was the scene of institutionalized terror acts committed first by the Hungarian fascists, then the Hungarian Communist secret police. The museum and exhibition hall was designed with a lot of fantasy and aroused debates as well. It was opened in 2002. Address:  Budapest, 6th district, Andrássy út 60.  Open: Tuesday to Sunday: 10am - 6pm, Closed on Monday. (It is about 20 minutes from us.)

Hősök tere / Heroes Square:

One of most beautiful and greatest ornamental squares leades into Heros Square, behind which starts the avenue of City Park. The Millenium Monument was started to be built ont he 1000th anniversary of Hungarian settlement in 1896. Int he centre the archangel of Gabriel figure stands on a high column and on its support are the statues of Árpád and the other six Hungarian Cheftains. Behind the main group of statues there is a semicircular ornamental collonade with the pantheon of Hungarian history, kings and other great historical figures.

Museum of Fine Arts:

The building borders the square from the left. It was finished in 1906 and displays a foreign art collection — including a modern section. The Spanish collection is quite significant and strong, especially El Greco’s paintings are often referred to in this context. The Flamish and Dutch material and the print collection are also significant. The musuem is open until 10 p.m. on Thursdays. Its renovation has been constantly ongoing since the second world war. Műcsarnok Exhibition Hall:

This ornamental building was completed in 1896. Since it does not have its own collection, it is not a museum but hosts various exhibitions. Address: Budapest, 14th district, Hősök tere / Heroes SquareOpen: Tuesday to Sunday: 10am - 6pm, Closed on Monday.

Parliament – Parliament:

The Eclectic Parliament building, stretching along the Danube Bank, was designed byImre Steindl. Not only is it an impressive site, so are the dimensions. It is a truly awe-inspiring sight: 268 metres in length and 118 metres wide.

Széchenyi Bath:

The Széchenyi is one of the biggest bathing complexes anywhere in Europe, whose hot spring – both the city’s hottest and deepest – was discovered in 1879. The neo-baroque building containing the thermal baths dates from 1913 and the adjacent swimming pool opened in 1927. The water is so warm that the outdoor pools are popular with bathers even in the depths of winter! Rudas Bath:

A swimming pool was added in 1896. The Turkish bath has been restored true to the original in recent years. The main building of the baths was completed in 1566. The octagonal basin of the Turkish bath is situated under a 10 metre diameter cupola which has small hexagons cut out to allow light to filter down; it is supported by 8 pillars. Gellért Bath:

 (XI. Kelenhegyi út 4-6): This must surely be one of the all-time favourites of visitors to Budapest. Its natural spring was known about as early as the thirteenth century, and its interior is a delight of original. Hotel Gellért was built in the late-Secession style in 1918. The Spa Swimming Pool and Lido Complex are integral to the Hotel, making it one of Budapest's most beautiful baths. Papp László Budapest Sportaréna – Stadium:

This unusual, pebble-shaped sports hall, equipped with the latest sound and light system, is a venue for national and international sporting events, concerts, exhibitions, conferences, and shows. The building is suitable for comfortably and safely accommodating between 2,500 and 12,500 people. The inner space of the Arena can be expanded to 8,000 square metres, making it home to various sporting events from athletics competitions to ice hockey matches, and from ice theatre to motocross shows. This is Hungary's most important venue. Above the car park there is a large, granite-covered terrace from which there is access to the café, restaurant, ticket office and Sport Museum. Skating-rink:

The City Park Pond where you can hire a rowing boat in the summer, becomes Europe's largest outdoor skating-rink, during the winter (normally open mid-October to late February) complete with weekend discos. International visitors should also have their passport for ID when renting.
